  • Acute (when inflammation of the mucosa occurs)
  • Chronic (when acute sinusitis has not been treated properly)

The main causes of sinus problems include:

  • Untreated colds or flu
  • Dry and hot air (e.g. in winter)
  • Weakened immune system of the body
  • Exposure to irritating gases

The most common symptoms of the disease:

  • Stuffed nose
  • Headaches
  • Burning sensation and pain in the mouth
  • Pains around the eyes and nose
  • Fever
  • Snore
  • Sleep apnea
  • Dyspnea and breathing problems

Home treatments for sinusitis

Water treatment of sinusitis

All you need is at least two liters of water a day, which you should drink throughout the day. In addition, taking a lot of fluids makes the thick mucopurulent discharge thinner and easier to remove.

A well-moistened body accelerates the secretion of mucus and fights inflammation faster.

Rinsing the nose with a saline solution

For inhalation preparation, you can buy a special salt solution in a pharmacy or boil 1 liter of water and dissolve a handful of salt in it. Rinsing the nasal cavity quickly and effectively dilutes the secretions and relieves the symptoms of a severe runny nose and sinusitis.

A method of preparing

Fill the syringe with saline solution. Place the end with the hole in the nostril and gently draw in the liquid until you feel it reaching the larynx. Then blow it out slowly. In addition, the treatment should be repeated several times until the secretion completely disappears.

A solution based on olive oil, salt and lavender

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons of water (20 ml)
  • 3 drops of olive oil
  • Pinch of salt
  • 3 drops of lavender essential oil

A method of preparing

  • Pour water into a saucepan and add salt.
  • Then add 3 drops of olive oil and 3 drops of lavender essential oil.
  • Cook until it comes to a boil.

  • Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the solution cool down.
  • Use as nasal drops, 3 drops into each nostril once every 24 hours.

Mint inhalation for sinusitis

Below we present a recipe for inhalation popular among many grandmothers, which effectively helps to remove mucus accumulated in the nasal cavity.

Ingredients

  • 5 glasses of water (1.2 l)
  • 3 drops of eucalyptus essential oil
  • 3 drops of peppermint oil

A method of preparing

  • Pour water into a saucepan and add three drops of each of the oils.
  • Cook until it starts to boil.
  • Then remove from heat and bring your face close to the pot while covering your head with a towel (be careful not to burn yourself).
  • Breathe in and out deeply for several minutes in a row.
  • You can repeat the inhalation up to 4 times a day.

Note:  Inhalations are not recommended for pregnant women, people with heart disease and nervous problems. They are also not recommended for babies, toddlers and the elderly.

Mint wraps

Since mint has decongestant and anti-inflammatory properties, it is excellent for treating rhinitis and sinusitis.

Sinusitis

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons of mint leaves (fresh or dried) (20 g)
  • 1 cup of water (250 ml)
  • Gauze

A method of preparing

  • Prepare a decoction of the mint leaves by boiling them in water for about 3 minutes.
  • Set aside to cool and strain.
  • Then moisten the gauze with the prepared infusion and apply the compress to the area where you feel the tension caused by the build-up of mucus.
  • You can also choose to make small gauze pads, soak them in a mint stock, and insert them directly into your nostrils.
  • Leave the compress for about 15 minutes. Repeat the treatment several times a day.

Therapeutic leg bath

This home treatment has proven to be incredibly effective for flu, colds and sinusitis. It is enough to dip your feet in a vessel of warm water (the warmer the better, but be careful not to burn yourself), and apply cold compresses to the nape and forehead.

When the water in the foot bath has cooled down, add a little boiling water again and replace the cold compresses with fresh ones. This treatment helps to relieve the headaches and malaise associated with the symptoms of sinusitis.

Radish wrap

You may find it surprising, but radishes are vegetables with valuable mucus-thinning properties. Support the treatment of sinusitis with radish compresses. They will surely help!

Ingredients

  • 1 onion
  • 6 radishes
  • Gauze

A method of preparing

  • Peel the onion and crush it in a mortar.
  • Do the same with the radishes.
  • Then mix the two ingredients together to make a healing paste.
  • Spread the prepared paste on a clean tissue or gauze and spread over the skin of the nose. Leave for at least half an hour.

Onion-rosemary inhalations

Rosemary is a herb containing numerous anti-inflammatory substances that additionally help fight a runny nose and residual mucus in the nasal cavity. Onions, on the other hand, are an excellent natural remedy for fighting respiratory diseases.

Pain with sinusitis

The combination of these two remedies gives you a powerful natural cure for sinusitis.

Ingredients

  • ½ liter of water
  • 1 onion
  • 1 tablespoon of rosemary (10 g)

A method of preparing

  • Peel the onion and chop it finely.
  • Pour the water into a saucepan and put it on low heat.
  • Then add the rosemary and cook until the infusion starts to boil.
  • Set aside from the heat and bring your face closer to the saucepan. Inhale the vapors deeply.
  • Repeat inhalation twice a day.
