Some of these items are not as safe as we think and may cause some health problems. While they won’t have any side effects initially, they can lead to infections and other problems in the long term.

1. Bath sponges are potentially unhealthy items

Bath sponges are supposed to help us clean the body and remove dead skin cells. However, due to the material from which they are made, they become an ideal environment for the growth of bacteria, mold and several other types of fungi.

Many people use the same sponges for a long time without disinfecting – this can lead to, among others, for skin infections.  It is best to change the sponges from time to time or rinse them with antibacterial agents, such as white vinegar.

2. Blender

A blender is a very useful and necessary kitchen appliance, but it can be risky if not properly cared for. The seals and some accessories are usually made of rubber, and the blender itself is often kept in places exposed to germs, mold and the growth of bacteria such as salmonella or e.coli.

Therefore, after each use, you should disassemble the blender into its parts and wash each of them thoroughly – especially the rubber parts.

3. Antibacterial soap

This product is designed to eliminate bacteria on your hands, but it also kills useful microorganisms. Antimicrobial soaps, gels and cleaning products increase the risk of coughing, sore throats and allergies.

Additionally, these products contain triclosan. It is a substance linked to muscle problems, the risk of heart disease and hormonal imbalance. That’s why we include antibacterial soaps in the “unhealthy items” category.

4. Unhealthy items – these can be ear buds

Ear sticks are a favorite tool for removing excess wax that builds up in your ears. Although there have been many campaigns to warn against this habit, people ignore this advice anyway, using ear buds a lot.

As a result, they often push the earwax even deeper into the inner parts of the ear, which can block the ear canal. When these substances enter the inner ear, a substance known as histamine is produced, causing irritation and inflammation.

To remove excess wax from the ear, you should use drops, hydrogen peroxide or even olive oil.

5. Manicure and pedicure tools

Most fingernail and toe care accessories are full of bacteria and microorganisms from the skin. The situation worsens if several family members use the same instruments without first disinfecting them.

As they come into direct contact with the skin of the feet and hands with every use, it is no wonder that they are exposed to the presence of various pathogens.

Therefore, they should be decontaminated after each use to ensure that they are completely disinfected. As for pumice stones and nail files, they should be replaced at least once a month.

6. Rubber kitchen utensils

Rubber kitchen tools are gaining popularity because they are practical and do not scratch pots and pans. The problem is that they deteriorate slightly with each use and lose their protective layer.

As time passes, you will notice that their color changes and they form slight blemishes. Additionally, E.coli pathogens can develop on the hands.

It is best to buy instruments made of a different material or to disinfect them frequently.

As you can see, some unhealthy items seem perfectly safe to us on a daily basis, and in fact can pose a health risk.
